{"id":280302,"date":"2023-03-22T17:08:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-23T00:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jthelander.com\/?p=280302"},"modified":"2023-03-22T17:08:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-23T00:08:00","slug":"how-does-compensation-vary-by-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brightturn.io\/?p=280302","title":{"rendered":"How Does Compensation Vary by Region?\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March&#8217;s Thelander Digest, we examine how&nbsp;<strong>median<\/strong>&nbsp;total cash&nbsp;compensation varies across the US&nbsp;for&nbsp;<strong>managing general partners<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>senior associates.&nbsp;<\/strong>The data presented is collected from the Thelander-PitchBook Investment Firm Compensation Survey, which is now open-year round.&nbsp;There are two charts below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Managing General Partner Median Total Cash, Venture Capital, Less than $1 Billion in total AUM\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Senior Associate Median Total Cash, Venture Capital, $1 Billion + in total AUM<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jthelander.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/9bf430ba-8c71-a2b1-48ca-0c79a96226ea.png\" alt=\"Managing General Partner Median Total Cash\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By examining the Thelander&nbsp;data above for&nbsp;<strong>managing general partners<\/strong>, we see that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Those\u00a0who work at a VC firm with less than $1 billion dollars in total AUM are\u00a0compensated the highest in Northern California region\u00a0at $500,000.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Managing general partners in the Mid Atlantic region were compensated the second highest with $431,250.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/survey.jthelander.com\/surveys\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Participate In The Investment Firm Compensation Surve<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jthelander.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/a755df23-6de4-a2a4-68ac-03e7a0dc6777.png\" alt=\"Senior Associate Median Total Cash\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By examining the Thelander&nbsp;data above for&nbsp;<strong>senior associates<\/strong>, we see that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Those who work at an investment firm with more than $1 billion in total AUM are compensated extremely competitively across the US. Whether a senior associate is located in Northern CA, Southern CA, Mountain, Southwest, or Southeast regions,\u00a0the median total cash is\u00a0$250,000 for all of them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0highest paid region is Northeast\u00a0at $307,500.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>TAKEAWAY<\/strong>: This is an extremely competitive talent pool, regardless of where you are located.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After reviewing our data from the chart above, we found that total AUM makes the largest difference in compensation rather than region.
